My Experience Volunteering at the Museum:

By Emilia Luker

For the past 2 years, I have volunteered at the museum for 1 hour every Saturday and I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. Over my time here, I have learnt some amazing facts, handled incredible artefacts, and met the lovely staff and volunteers here. My personal favourite moments have been: learning about Madge Mellors and seeing the artefacts from there, looking at the incredible butterfly collection, photographing the incredible objects in the store room, packing and sorting boxes, viewing the exhibitions, and helping out with the make and create sessions.

The volunteers at the museum are some of the most knowledgeable people I know, and every week I have learnt something new thanks to them. Newton Abbot has such an incredible history, and I have loved learning all about it.

I would definitely recommend Newton Abbot Museum for work experience or for volunteering, as you learn so much and have so much fun doing it! Furthermore, I would 100% recommend a visit to the museum as it is incredibly interactive and insightful.

To right- there’s always lots to do behind-the-scenes in the stores!
