Visiting Safely
We are a new Museum located in Newton’s Place, an accessible community building, and are excited to welcome you to come and see our brand new exhibits and the stories that they tell.
Due to the continuing COVID-19 situation, we are continuing to take extra steps to keep the Museum as safe as possible for our visitors, volunteers and staff.
The Museum will be running at a reduced capacity to make sure that social distancing can be maintained while ensuring that our visitors can relax and enjoy their experience. A ticket system is no longer in place, so you can pop in at your leisure, but please be aware that if we are very full you may be asked to wait/come back later.
If you have any questions or additional needs please get in touch.
Arrival
When you arrive you will be welcomed by a member of the Front of House Team who will introduce you to the Museum. There are screens on the Front Desk for the safety of you and our team. If you have any questions throughout your visit, please do speak to our volunteers and members of staff who will be happy to help (and will have a blue lanyard on).
If you have any queries regarding access, please see our accessibility guide here.
Hand sanitiser
There are hand sanitiser stations for you to use around the Museum. We ask, in particular, for you to use the one by the entrance when you first arrive and the ones placed by the interactives.
Face coverings
Following the government’s updated rules as of 27th January 2022, we are asking all visitors to wear a face covering if they are able. Facemasks are no longer mandatory, but the government suggests that you continue to wear one in crowded and indoor spaces where you may come into contact with people you do not normally meet.
Please bear in mind certain people are exempt from wearing face coverings, including children under the age of 11 and people with certain disabilities, so please be considerate of others and maintain some distance from others during your trip.
Social distancing
We are continuing to encourage 2m social distancing throughout the Museum. Please try to maintain some distance between yourself and other visitors that are not part of your group throughout your visit.
Toilets
Toilets are now open to all, but please take extra care with hand washing and hygiene.
Shop
Our small gift shop is now open, and both cash and card transactions are accepted. Please continue to use the hand sanitiser provided when paying for your goods, and if you handle any items in the shop.
We kindly ask that you only handle items that you intend to purchase.
Hands on activities
There are several interactive exhibits throughout the Museum that you are welcome to use. These are regularly cleaned with antibacterial wipes. We also ask you to use the hand sanitiser available before and after use.
Interactives that cannot be sanitised will be temporarily out of use.
We also have an automaton that takes a single £1 coin to operate.
We hope you have an enjoyable visit to Newton Abbot Museum and look forward to welcoming you!
