Also on offer in the 11-strong line-up of activities are a series of bite-size slices of local history served up in a range of styles including costumed performances and heritage presentations and there will be a chance to see inside the town’s Medieval St Leonard’s Tower.

All the events are due to take place over the weekends of September 6 – 9 and 13 – 16 and have been organised by staff and volunteers at Newton Abbot Museum as part of their outreach programme during the site’s closure while the shift to the new £2 million Newton’s Place at the former St Leonard’s Church is being prepared. ‘The museum might be closed at the moment, as the plans for Newton’s Place progress, but we are still active within the local community,’ said museum volunteer Val Harrison.

‘Look out for these free, events and come and join in the celebration of Newton Abbot’s heritage, its community and history. We’re really looking forward to sharing some fascinating local tales and information and hope to be joined by as many people as possible.”
