For April and May we have had a big focus on social media, striving to provide our followers with more content: be it facts, fun or photos.
Our new Newton’s Place Facebook and twitter are still in their infancy, you might not have seen them, so I’m offering you a quick summary of my favourite updates here.
On May 13 it was National Train Day, as a GWR museum we just had to take the opportunity to shout about trains, and did a short piece about the short-lived atmospheric railway.
International Nursing Day was a good opportunity to tell the tale of a fantastic local lady https://www.facebook.com/NewtonsPlace/videos/787125898119967/
Lost Sock Memorial Day was one of my favourite ‘official day’ as its such an odd one. We didn’t have an odd sock in the collection but we do have a lonely shoe.
Mental Health Awareness week let us share some great articles about museums and wellbeing

We avoided posting any nudes on World Naked Garden Day:
As local votes were tallied we remembered a tumultuous election day in times past:

Volunteer recognition day gave us the chance to say thank you to our amazing volunteers, we couldn’t keep the museum open for you to enjoy without them.

Our curator, Felicity, went on a comprehensive course teaching her to preserve and redisplay insects, so you can expect a post on repairing our butterflies and moth collections later in the year.
